This is the second in a series of character redesigns for an imagined Wonder Woman live-action television series as produced by myself initially based off George Perez's iconic run on the Post-Crisis title. Here we have Wonder Woman's Godly nemesis Ares, the God of War.
As one of Wonder Woman's many mythological enemies, Ares is incredibly powerful and highly dangerous. Though not one of her more recurring villains, Ares is the guy who gets everything up and running for Wonder Woman. He sets the tone.
Redesigning Ares was initially a very daunting task until I got started. I wanted him to look dark and menacing and ended up taking cues from the Zodiac sign Aries for which Ares resides over as its God. As such, I gave him a more ram-like appearance with horns and an animal-like nose. I also gave him a stylized ram symbol for his armour (though it probably looks too much like Hordak's Horde symbol) and the Aries symbol for his shield. The armour itself I kept red and black as I felt it really got the point across. Of course, I also added spikes all over the place. I think it just makes him look untouchable.
