Here's an updated picture of my Ayumi Hamasaki collection. For those who don't know who she is (and I'm expecting most don't), she's Japan's most successful solo artist and is on-par with the likes of Madonna and Britney Spears in terms of her fame. She's a humble and soft-spoken artist whose frequently shifting image helped her to become something of a Japanese Madonna. Her musical genres vary though she seems most comfortable within the genre of rock but is also known for her emotional ballads. It's also important to note that she writes all her own song and is well-known for her personal lyrics. These lyrics in part contributed to her success as they helped to bring her closer to her audience on a more emotional and vulnerable level. Though her record sales have begun to drop as her career continues, it is but a snapshot of the current state of the Japanese music industry. It was once all-powerful but as the 2010s wear on artists are selling less than they once did.
Pictured here are seven of Ayu's singles ("M," "H," "Voyage," "INSPIRE," "fairyland," "STEP you/is this LOVE?" and "Bold & Delicious/Pride") as well as most of her studio albums. I have "I Am...", "RAINBOW," "Memorial Address," "MY STORY," "(miss)understood," "Secret," "GUILTY," "NEXT LEVEL," "Rock'n'Roll Circus," "Love songs," "Party Queen" and her most recent "LOVE again." I also have her compilation album "A BEST" and the box set of "A COMPLETE - All Singles." There is also her "Countdown 2011-2012" DVD that came with "Party Queen" and a few photobooks that came as extras with some of the albums. Ahh I do so love Ayu!
