To celebrate Japanese pop star Ayumi Hamasaki's 15th anniversary in the music business, I decided to pay tribute to the Empress by drawing five of DC Comics' lovely heroines in outfits inspired by some of the beautiful tour costumes she's worn over the course of her career. I picked the five heroines based on the response they received in my Women of the New 52 drawing series and so the five featured are those with the most favourites. Coming in third for most favourites is the brainy Batgirl from the Birds of Prey!
Batgirl was a character who I didn't have an immediate direction for in terms of picking a costume. As such, I opted for selecting an outfit from one of my all-time favourite performances of Ayumi Hamasaki's -- her performance of "STEP you" for her Arena Tour 2006 - (miss)understood concert. It's a very cute look with a little nightie with glovelets and a little bow on her head. Of course, I adapted it to fit Barbara and make the character more recognizable. As such, I altered the colour scheme from pink and black to black and yellow and changed the pattern to little bats. I hope she came out looking cute.
