Batgirl - The New 52 Era

Batgirl as she appeared during the New 52 initiative.

The New 52 featured Barbara Gordon returning to her role as Batgirl after having miraculously recovered from her paralysis. Wracked by survivor's guilt and PTSD, she had to overcome many obstacles in her quest to prove herself worthy of being a superhero once more. She appeared in her own solo series, penned by my favourite comic book writer Gail Simone and illustrated by the talented Adrian Syaf, Ed Benes, Daniel Sampere, and Fernando Pasarin. In this series, she was given an impressive rogue's gallery and a relatable supporting cast (including fan-favourite Alysia Yeoh). Batgirl was also a member of the Birds of Prey and was featured in Batman Eternal. In the latter, she teamed up with Red Robin and Batwoman to prove her father's innocence after he is imprisoned. Across all books, she wore high-tech body armour created and paid for by Bruce Wayne. In real life, it was designed by Jim Lee. A few years in, she was revamped with a new design and was given a different creative team. This new direction continued into DC's Rebirth initiative.
