This was the 16th entry into my 28 Days of Black Superheroines series that I've been working on via Instragam in order to celebrate Black History Month.
Cecilia Reyes is a mutant doctor with the ability to create personalized force fields. She joined the X-Men in the late-'90s during the Operation: Zero Tolerance storyline. She stayed with the team for only a short time, but remained an ally over the years.
Cecilia Reyes is one of the many criminally underrated characters Marvel has. She's one of the very few Afro-Latina heroines in comics and has a really distinct look, personality, and set of powers. Her interactions with the X-Men show a lot of potential for relationship growth as well. I really like her as a character and would love to see her be given more of a prominent role, alongside my other favourites like M and Dazzler. Although, I suspect she'd need an actual codename.
