This is the sixth in a series of character redesigns for an imagined Wonder Woman live-action television series as produced by myself initially based off George Perez's iconic run on the Post-Crisis title. Here we have the psychotic and extremely dangerous Dr. Barbara Minerva AKA the Cheetah!
Cheetah is unarguably Wonder Woman's most iconic enemy. The mantle itself originated with socialite Priscilla Rich who donned a Cheetah costume in order to fight Wonder Woman and Rich's Cheetah is possibly still the most famous or popular due to her appearance on the roll-your-eyes-at-its-ridiculousness cartoon Super Friends. For decades, Cheetah was treated as a joke and gave Wonder Woman's villains a bad rep... then George Perez came along and changed everything. He created Dr. Barbara Ann Minerva who subsequently became the most dangerous and unpredictable Cheetah yet! She was imbued with Godly powers and has since given Wonder Woman the fight for her life many times over. She's vicious and certainly proves that she could rip the crap out of all of Batman's villains. It's still funny to me that Wonder Woman's enemies (who largely comprise of characters with divine powers) are treated as jokes when they could rather easily rip up Batman's entire rogue's gallery without much effort. Circe alone could snap her fingers and turn them all into bestiamorphs under her control. I'm digressing though... Cheetah is probably Wonder Woman's most physical foe and poses a more physical threat for the Amazon in comparison to her other more magically-inclined enemies. I love the Barbara Minerva Cheetah and feel that she's a fantastic character.
When it came to redesigning Cheetah, I had a vague idea of what I wanted to do with her. I wanted to incorporate elements of anthropomorphism with her but still keep her as humanoid as possible. I kind of wanted her to look sexy. Cats are associated with sensuality so I figured it suited her. I also knew I wanted to give her a bodysuit to cover what needed to be covered (originally, Minerva's Cheetah wore a Cheetah suit and wasn't actually transformed into a Cheetah until later but for my series I intend her to transform from the start). I wanted to imagine the suit could be something she could wear as a human. Perhaps she could wear it underneath her archaeologist's outfit. All she needs is some tan pants and she's good to go on a dig.
I also tossed on some tribal necklaces just to pay homage to her day job. I would have tossed on some bracelets and anklets as well but wasn't sure if that would be too busy. One of my favourite parts is the belt with the stylized 'C' as I feel it personalizes it a little more beyond the black and brown leather suit.
