Commission - Shelby Clarke

This is another commission from ~ParisNJones

As with the other recent drawings for ~ParisNJones, this is another character from his "Day In, Day Out" series. Shelby Clarke is the ex-girlfriend of Jordan Brooks [link], who she happens to still secretly pine after. She's never finished college so she's currently spending her time working at a record store called Vinyl Frontier (a cute and clever name, I might add). When I initially drew Shelby, she was a lot sexier. She wore a cleavage-bearing mini-dress with sky-high heels and had been depicted without glasses. I actually ended up really missing the mark for her character and had to go back and nerdify her. The glasses went on, the cleavage went away and I toned down the curves. As such, she came out looking more original and visually interesting. She has this rocker edge that suits her description. I have to thank ~ParisNJones for setting me straight on her character. She did go through another series of evolutions before her current state though. I was asked to put her in a white-and-red striped shirt with red shoes and light blue jeans. However, the result was a little too "Where's Waldo?" to which ~ParisNJones agreed and gave me another set of colours to give her. As such, she really came out looking more like the Ramones... which is great. I think Shelby is one of the most distinct characters I've gotten to draw and she has this really great hairstyle. I hope you all agree and think she looks as great as I think she does. She seems really relatable too. She's the kind of character I can imagine my female watchers (what few of you there are... hey ladies!) really appreciating.
