Green Lantern Corps - Hal Jordan Redesign

During both the first and second round of voting for the characters you all wanted to see me redesign next in my DC Comics head canon series, Hal Jordan was among the bottom of the results. In both rounds, he received only two votes, which is rather surprising for such an A-list character. Seeing as the bottom tier characters were never going to get their redesigns posted individually and instead would appear in their group shots, I wanted to give Hal a chance to get some love by submitting him separately anyway. Since TristanDavis voted for him in both rounds and justinator119 and ChazH101 voted for him in round one and two respectively, this piece is for them.

Stubborn and headstrong, Hal Jordan is an independent type of guy who rebels against authority. That's perhaps why it's so surprising that he's considered one of the Green Lantern Corps' best and brightest. He rarely listens to what his superiors have to say and was frustrating to deal with during training. Back on his home turf, his employers at Ferris Aircraft haven't had much luck in reigning him in either. Interestingly, his rebellious streak has little to do with him disrespecting others so much as it has to do with his incredible instincts as a leader and strategist. He constantly follows his gut, which makes helps him to appear passionate and charismatic, often inspiring confidence in those around him. Truthfully, Hal is just the kind of guy that thinks he always knows best. Though that may be true in most cases, it isn't always.

Amongst his compatriots in the Green Lantern Corps, Hal is closest to Kilowog, the Lantern who was responsible for training him to become the great ringslinger he is today. They keep each other on their toes, with a relationship that is similar to that of Marvel's Human Torch and The Thing. Hal also has to contend with the advances of Arisia, another Lantern, who has a massive crush on him. On Earth, Hal frequently spends his downtime with his best friends Oliver Queen and Barry Allen. The three of them often head out for drinks to relax after having to keep up with their hectic double lives as heroes and civilians. Hal also maintains a playful friendship with Dinah Lance, who finds Hal's womanizing rather repulsive and is prone to chastising him for it. Still, the pair are close and share a bond due to their mutual relations with Oliver. She also jokingly refers to Hal and Oliver as a married couple, due to their perceived inappropriate closeness and how they seem to get into the most unusual situations when adventuring together.

In coming up with a design for Hal, I took most of my inspiration from fighter pilot uniforms. This meant placing the Green Lantern Corps emblem on his arms and on one side of his chest. I also shortened his sleeves to mimic the rolled sleeves of some pilots, while the gloves and collar are also meant to reference that uniform as well. Even his mask, with built-in goggles, are a nod to that. The line you see on his chest and arm reference his position within the Corps and him being the first Earth Lantern. You'll see this as a recurring uniform detail as I post more Corps members.

For those curious, I haven't settled on which Green Lantern will be on the Justice League quite yet. Since I keep flip-flopping, I'm leaving it up to you all. Whichever Earth Lantern receives the most favourites will be chosen for the Justice League, while the one with the second most will be on the League's splinter group.
