Injustice League redesigns, part 6 of 10.
Having asked you all pick your favourite Injustice League members from a selective list, Cheetah settled somewhere in the middle. Out of 85 votes, she received 7.
In my mind, Wonder Woman has some of the coolest and deadliest enemies out there. The Barbara Minerva Cheetah is a good example of that. For anyone who has read George Perez's treatment of Cheetah, they will recognize just how dangerous and unpredictable she is. Of course, the sexual politics of the comic book community ensures that somehow Wonder Woman, and by extension her supporting cast, are treated as somehow less than equal than Superman or Batman's. That just simply isn't true. There's very little I would change about Cheetah in re-envisioning her. I'd keep her psychotic edge of course and maintain her unpredictable behaviour. She's easily the most dangerous member of the Injustice League due to how hard it is to pin down her psychological make-up. Given the fact that she's imbued with the abilities of a divine being, that makes her all the more powerful. To reflect this, Cheetah would play the role of Lex Luthor's deputy on the Injustice League but her quest for power would see her allying with Black Manta. Manta would be her lover and secret partner in a plot to usurp Lex Luthor's power. Of course, it remains to be seen whether Barbara is simply playing Manta and Luthor for fools. After all, it's quite possible all she wants is a bloodbath between the supervillains. She is a fan of that red stuff, you know.
This isn't my first time redesigning Cheetah. In fact, I drew her as part of a Wonder Woman redesign series quite some time ago. That piece can be found here: [link]
. I liked what I did previously but I wanted to go even sexier. Cheetahs are very sensual creatures with their lithe bodies and agile movements so it's not a stretch to imagine Barbara dressing herself that way. Of course, she overtly plays the role of the sexpot as a strategy as well. Luthor and Manta aren't immune to her sexual charms after all. However, I did want to make sure in designing the costume that it gave her lots of mobility. She doesn't have constricting pants on and she mostly covers the parts of her body that need to be covered. When you think about it, this woman's body is covered with fur so she's not going to want to hang around in a full-body leather catsuit all day long. She just needs something to cover the lady bits. The fingerless gloves and toe-less boots are meant to give her further mobility. She will require her claws for climbing and running as well as slashing. She also needed accessories so I outfitted her with a toothed necklace as well as a belt to hold an ceremonial African dagger which she requires for the sacrifices the Cheetah God requires in order to maintain her powers. Overall, I'm quite pleased with how she came out.
