Injustice League redesigns, part 9 of 10.
Having asked you all pick your favourite Injustice League members from a selective list, Poison Ivy placed second. Out of 86 votes, she received 22. Of all the villains on the list, I really have to hand it to Poison Ivy as she came out on top of both Lex Luthor and the Joker whose popularity is undeniable but it looks like the Queen of the Green is more of a formidable force than I thought.
As I got to thinking about Poison Ivy, I quickly realized that her motives and tactics mesh rather well with those of Ra's al Ghul and his League of Assassins. As such, in this re-imagining Poison Ivy has a history with Ra's group and would have in fact been his right-hand-man so to speak. After the experiments done on her at the hands of Dr. Jason Woodrue, Pamela Isley's body became so in tuned to the plight of nature that she found the need to defend it irresistible. Isley devoted herself to eco-terrorism and her deeds found their way onto Ra's al Ghul's radar. He sought her out and offered her a place in the League of Shadows. Adopting the codename Poison Ivy, Isley quickly rose through the ranks in the League and her unique skillset made her Ra's most invaluable assassin. She could get close enough to any diplomat or industrialist with the use of her pheromones and feminine wiles in order to kill them or use them. However, Ra's had further plans for Ivy outside of her many contracts. Ra's was obsessed with finding a mate for his only daughter Talia and recognized the difficulty in persuading the perfect candidate into being with her. He arranged for Ivy to use her abilities to manipulate Batman into falling for Talia but when Ra's realized that Batman would never willingly submit to Ra's he battled the Dark Knight but lost. Having learned the truth of her father's machinations, Talia left the League of Shadows and Ivy was ordered to keep close watch on her. Upon returning Stateside, Ivy received a better offer.... from Lex Luthor. Ivy abandoned her post in the League of Shadows to join Luthor's Injustice League but her motivations in doing so remain a mystery though many assume she is there in order to settle a personal score with the Joker.
I've previously redesigned Poison Ivy in the past [link]
and it proved to be quite popular. However, going into this series I wanted to do something different. Overall, I was partially inspired by the fact that she'd been wearing a bodysuit in the New 52 but largely I wanted to design her as an assassin. As such, I gave her a stealthy appearance with very dark, muted colours but kept some foliage. I gave her a small crossbow as well as a belt containing some special darts around her thigh. I kept her feet bare since I feel like Ivy would partly derive her powers from the Earth itself and would enjoy feeling it beneath her feet. As you can see, I also gave her facial tattoos. I really liked that aspect of the New 52 Ivy so I gave her something like tiger stripes here. Although not really mentioned, something I think would be a key element to this version of Poison Ivy is that she is a regenerative hybrid who is able to recover from mass trauma. In other words, you can cut off her limbs but they'll grow back. She's the ultimate assassin.
Remember, all the other redesigns for the Injustice League and Justice League can be found in my gallery. Of course, the information on the character here is all hypothetical and non-canon as it is intended to be a re-imagining.
