Justice League redesigns, part 12 of 12.
Having asked you all pick your favourite Justice League members from a selective list, Batman took first place. Out of 97 votes, he received an overwhelming and rather predictable 34. I'm sure he won due to the excessive amount of adaptations he's received and the lack of familiarity people have with the other League members.
In reimagining the character and the League, Batman would have to be one of those characters within the League who would largely remain unchanged. While the other Leaguers base themselves out of New York City, Bruce would remain fixed in Gotham and would stubbornly refuse his full-time League status as he sees his place as being with Gotham. His closest friendship with the League remains with Superman with the two trusting each other implicitly and with Superman often being Batman's greatest defender when he is absent. Likewise, he maintains a flirtatious relationship with Zatanna and exhibits a fair amount of respect for Aquaman. However, Batman finds himself engaged in combative relationships with many of the other Leaguers. Batman clashes frequently with Green Arrow and Black Canary as well as Green Lantern but his greatest arguments take form against Wonder Woman due to their contrasting views and styles. Despite this, he truly respects his fellow League members and was one of Vixen's greatest champions when they were seeking a replacement member following Hawkman's death.
A lot of recent designs for Batman are very heavy and bulk him up with armour. This trend obviously started with the Nolan films but I wanted a more light-weight Batman. He's obviously muscular and well-trained but he needs his freedom of movement. I imagine even light-weight armour might be a little too constrictive. As such, I imagine him wearing some kind of multi-weave fabric that is breathable but offers maximum protection. My main inspiration outside of freeing him from the armour that's been forced upon him in recent designs was in trying to associate him more closely with bats. That meant giving him a more constructed mask that alludes to the angular and harsh features of bats as well as altering his symbol to include the clawed tops of a bat's wing. I also gave him clawed gloves to associate him closer with bats. Overall, I'm fairly pleased with the design. It's both modern and iconic. At least in my head it is.
