Justice League redesigns, part 11 of 12.
Having asked you all pick your favourite Justice League members from a selective list, Wonder Woman placed second overall. Out of 97 votes, she received 15.
Wonder Woman is my personal favourite member of the Justice League and is in fact my favourite character over at DC Comics. I think she's an excellent role model and exhibits the basic human virtues that we should all live by -- honesty, patience, and compassion. She has a respect for human life and views violence as the last resort in a conflict. As I've previously said to some, Wonder Woman is a cross between Xena and the late Princess Diana... sort of like a Mother Theresa with a sword. She's always been a beacon of light at DC Comics and has become a symbol for equality in the world with many citing her as both a feminist and gay icon. After all, Wonder Woman does more than just beat up psychopaths and toss them in insane asylums. I've always felt that George Perez, Phil Jimenez and Greg Rucka understood her character best and their runs on her title include some of the best storytelling found in comic books. Of course, because she's not Batman most people haven't bothered to touch said stories which is a shame. In re-imagining her for this series, I didn't want to stray too far from the characterization established by Perez, Jimenez and Rucka. She's a brilliant tactician and warrior who puts her skills to use as a diplomat and ambassador of peace. While she's comfortable duking it out with the likes of Ares and Cheetah, she's much more comfortable visiting orphanages and refugee camps to aid the sick and abandoned while also preferring addressing dictators and diplomats via lectures and treaties. She'd also be one of the few League members not to use a secret identity. Diana lives her life transparently and to use a secret identity would be a form of lying according to Diana. As such, she'd be viewed as the most approachable League member and would theoretically draw more trust than even Superman would. Of course, there would be a division of people who view her as barbaric and pagan due to her religious beliefs. This would draw a lot of protests from people insisting Wonder Woman be taken off the League. In terms of her relationships on the team, Diana would be the glue that holds the League together given how easily she gets along with each member though she'd admittedly find Hal a little grating and would find Bruce mildly off-putting given her inability to trust him due to his secretive nature (again, Diana would view 'secrets' as an extension of dishonesty). Nevertheless, Diana's closest friends would be Clark, Shayera, Dinah and Barry while also maintaining a seemingly harmless flirtation with Arthur.
In redesigning Wonder Woman, I did want to put some pants on her as I've shockingly grown to like it. However, I know it's a controversial idea among many who would prefer her to remain in a bathing suit so to appease two sides of the Wonder Woman coin I decided to give her two looks. The first is yet another version of Diana in a Greek warrior garb. The other is a more modern take on her costume largely inspired by her current costume in the New 52. I'm fairly pleased with how they came out. You'll all have to let me know which one you prefer and WHY.
