Power Girl Redesigned by Femmes-Fatales Power Girl Redesigned by Femmes-Fatales
For much of last year, I was redesigning several characters from the DC Universe. I managed to finish the Justice League, Injustice League, Justice League International, Teen Titans and the Secret Six as well as several Wonder Woman villains. One character I left off was Power Girl. This didn't go unnoticed. She was one of the characters that was most inquired about. Having been drawing a lot of X-Men lately I decided to switch things up and throw a DC character into the mix. Who did it end up being? Power Girl of course!

I had this vision of Power Girl in a skirt. I figured it would be elegant and feminine. Now, let me say this... I don't really like flying heroines in skirts. It's silly and impractical. However, for strictly aesthetic reasons I decided to see what it would look like on ol' PG here. Working around that, I wanted to make the costume appear super modern. This mean adding more detail than is usual for her. Also, to compensate the skin exposed by the skirt I decided to toss some thigh-his onto her. I'm not really a proponent for the boob window and I think it's kind of silly but I kept it anyway. I decided to shape it to the same appearance as the S-shield though. Also, I wanted to make her appear tougher too. I didn't draw her to look like a sex bomb... as evidenced by her larger frame and stern expression. The hairstyle was inspired by one Cameron Diaz wore.

Enjoy! Comments are always welcome. :)

I kind of wish you just closed up that boob hole. But that was made up for by making it shaped like Superman's S-shield. I also like her hair and the way her cape is attached to he costume.

This isn't really a "serious" redesign. This was more of a whim, I wanted to see PG in a skirt so I made it happen. If I wanted to seriously redesign her, the stupid boob window would be closed up and she wouldn't be in a skirt.

Either way, I appreciate the comment. Always nice to get some.

Not really liking the skirt, but the s-shield is a very nice touch as it reminds you that she is a member of the superman family. The hair looks nice too.

Thanks! I'm glad you like those elements. Obviously, as I mentioned in my comment box, the skirt was an aesthetic experiment. They're definitely not functional! ;)

Neat design.
Like you, I'm not usually a massive fan of skirts or boob windows, since they're impractical and usually there for no good reason. But this design still looks cool. The shape of the skirt and the way it fits with the rest of the suit looks very sleek and modern. The belt works well to break up the continuous white and I like how it sort of mirrors the way the cape attaches to the suit.
And I do love that you drew her with a bulkier, more muscular-looking build, as befits a woman with the name 'Power Girl'. Very nice, overall.

In a way, the skirt was a vague homage to Uhura. For some reason, I've always found her to be very chic (but I won't pretend like I'm a Star Trek fan or know anything of the character). That's really where the design of it is taking a cue from. That said, were I doing a true redesign that I would seriously consider to be representative of her as a serious hero you would find neither a skirt or a boob window on her. ;)

I really appreciate you taking the time out to comment and your analysis of the drawing is fantastic. I'm glad you like the elements I've incorporated into the piece. It means a lot when someone leaves more than just a generic sentence as a comment. Thanks!! :)
