Description
This was the sixth entry into my 28 Days of Black Superheroines series that I've been working on via Instragam in order to celebrate Black History Month.
Monica Rambeau made her sensational debut in 1982. As Captain Marvel, she was the first (and only) African-American woman to lead the Avengers. Though she'd fall into obscurity shortly thereafter, she was brought back into the forefront in the quirky Nextwave, the Sex and the City-lite Marvel Divas, and as the field leader of the Mighty Avengers. Fun fact: Monica has had many name changes over the years - she's been Captain Marvel, Photon, Pulsar, and Spectrum.
Since I'd already drawn Monica in her Mighty Avengers costume, I wanted to try something different for her piece here. I opted for the costume she wore in the pages of A-Force during Secret Wars. It's definitely very Captain Marvel inspired. Love it!

And my favourite superheroine of all time! While I may like the outfit she wore in Nextwave a little bit more, I still absolutely adore this ensemble for her. Monica Rambeau is such an important milestone in comics, and I absolutely love her to pieces no matter what codename she uses (my personal favourite? Spectrum).
