It's no secret that one of my favourite eras for the X-Men was the Australian Outback years. The team (which comprised of Storm, Wolverine, Colossus, Rogue, Psylocke, Dazzler, Longshot and Havok) was unique and was written like a family. There was a dynamic to them which has yet to be replicated by any team that proceeded it. Since I've been (re)reading those issues for the Dazzler Costume Chronology I'm currently working on I've gotten to see the costumes the X-Men wore during that time all over again. Despite the fact that it was the late-'80s, the X-Men had remarkably stylish outfits.
Storm's look at that time was this chic black leather outfit that had a thunderbolt design splashed across her torso. It had a flowing cape and bunched sleeves. As many of you will notice, this was the costume that Jim Lee retooled when he designed her costume for the Gold Team. I may be wrong but I believe his costume was originally supposed to be black as well but ended up white/silver in the end. Anyway, I felt really inspired to draw this look for Storm. I really don't have enough of her in my gallery.
The "Omega" classification is by and large loosely defined. According to most fans of the character, Storm is an Omega-level mutant given the fact that she's considered to be one of the most powerful mutants who can harness something which can devastate the Earth.
It would take a pretty huge misunderstanding for Storm and Superman to battle. You have to remember that Storm is defined by her diplomacy and in that she is not unlike Wonder Woman. She sees aggression and war as a last resort. For her to fight Superman, she needs to have the general impression that he is out to kill someone... and given what we know of Superman... he'd need to be possessed by something or someone to be that far gone. Of course, when he's possessed or mind controlled Superman operates on a lower power level enabling his opponent a greater chance at outsmarting him.
