The New 52 - Godiva by Femmes-Fatales The New 52 - Godiva by Femmes-Fatales
After finishing the twelve initial pin-ups in my Women of the New 52 series of drawings, I decided to go ahead and do more. So here's the thirteenth pin-up in a new series I'm doing called The Women of the New 52. This one is of the British beauty Godiva!

"Justice League International" was one of the most promising titles in the New 52. They had a great cast and an excellent artist (Aaron Lopresti). Unfortunately, Dan Jurgens failed to flesh out the cast and the title never really met its potential. Part of the problem was that there were too many team members and the other was that the females were vastly underused. That said, Godiva was a surprise stand-out in the title. Arguably the most obscure member of the team, Godiva proved to be a fascinating character whose reluctance to be a hero made her a must-watch character in every panel she was in. Her flirtatious attitude was also quite endearing. When I decided to expand the series, I knew Godiva had to be thrown in. She'll undoubtedly be the character with the least amount of favs and comments but she was still a blast to draw. :) In case it's not obvious Godiva's super power is super hair! XD

due to the amount of hair and the length as well. I will have to save it. I do admit That I love long thick hair on women

JLI is cancelled? I didn't get a chance to read it after issue 9. I hope the characters will be used in other books and will not be ignored. Great work, BTW. You gave her a nice pose. I like her expression and hair looks very good. The mirror is a nice touch. =)

JLI will be cancelled as of issue 12. They'll be receiving an annual though and many are suggesting the team will be re-branded.

In terms of the art, thanks for the kind words. :) It means a lot.

I never heard of Godiva or read JLI, but the way you drew her says a lot about her character. Since JLI is cancelled, maybe she'll turn up in another DC series.

It's quite possible. As I said in another reply to a comment, there are rumblings that JLI will be rebranded with a new team (both of characters and of writers) so it's quite possible that Godiva may be sticking around a little longer. It'd be a shame to have this character show up in the DCnU on a higher profile and have her disappear back into Z-list status.

A second-tier that gets the spotlight, and does it well. Nice.

I have to agree, the series has potential yet fails on it. Its on e of the four next cancelled titles (Though in exchange, four new series start up, including one featuring a Talon, and another featuring a team featuring Black Canary, Amanda Waller and Deathstroke on one team....), though the issues are apparently personal and not sales.

the rumors for the other three are mainly Voodo, Captain Atom, Grifter and Blue Beetle

There are suggestions that Justice League International will be re-branded with a new team and with a new creative team. At least, that's what the rumours are over at Comicvine.

Overall, the new books are nearly all ones I won't read with the exception of Team 7 strictly because Dinah (presumably prior to her becoming Black Canary) will be on the title.

By the way, the cancelled are Voodo, Captain Atom and Ressurection man? Curious, um....how long do most single, non Batman, Wonder Woman, Captain America, Hulk type comics last anyway?

It looks like they're still giving Blue Beetle a chance even though its sales are extremely low. I may be mistaken but I believe its sales were lower than Voodoo and at least Voodoo was getting critical praise where Blue Beetle was met with some less favourable ones.

In general, you can expect a solo title of a D-list character to last around 6 or 12 issues if the sales turn out to be disappointing though some will clock in around the 25 issue mark if they get into their second year (as many of the titles in The New 52 are). The thing about a lot of the solo titles in the DCnU is that many are related to a major hero so they tend to last long -- you can expect Supergirl and Catwoman to last a while. Both have a history of long-running series (Catwoman especially whose two solo titles both nearly reached 100 issues). Batgirl and Batwoman are also contenders for long-running series... ESPECIALLY since Batwoman receives such high praise.
