Titans redesigns, part 2 of 5.
I asked you all to pick your favourite of a list of Teen Titans and Kid Flash (AKA Wally West) placed third. Out of 86 votes, Wally received 10 votes. On an error I my part, I accidentally skipped Tula (who placed fourth) to draw Wally since I had somehow thought their places on the poll were switched. That just means you all get to see Wally that much sooner!
Given the fact that I had wanted to de-emphasize Iris West's role in the Flash's life in my re-imagining of the DC Universe in favour of providing more exciting love interests for Barry, Wally's role had to inevitably be changed as well. Wally West would very much be a scholar. He's someone who seeks out knowledge and who is always working towards a goal. He's sensitive like an artist and isn't the class clown he's typically depicted as. In other words, he's closer to the guy we saw during the iconic New Teen Titans run. He received his powers while on an assignment for school to the NYPD crime labs. Just as Barry before him, the accident that occurred in the labs turned Wally into a super fast metahuman. Being the person that he is, Wally took to superheroics rather quickly and became the Flash's partner. This eventually spun off into his current tenure with the group known as the Titans. He maintains a close friendship with fellow Titans Dick Grayson and Roy Harper but shares a special bond with Tula (AKA Aquagirl).
In terms of his design, I wanted Wally's look to be similar to Barry's but I decided to keep it more youthful. I shortened the sleeves as well as the gloves and shoes. I simplified the suit and then brought the goggles down over his eyes. I also obviously reverse the Flash colour scheme. I've previously depicted Wally with longer hair in another Kid Flash redesign but I decided to go shorter this time around. Overall, I think he looks pretty good.
Remember, all my DC Comics redesigns can be found in my gallery. Also, the information here is a speculative and creative re-imagining so it is effectively non-canon.
