Titans redesigns, part 1 of 5.
I asked you all to pick your favourite of a list of Teen Titans and Red Arrow (AKA Roy Harper) placed dead last. Out of 85 votes, Roy received 4 votes.
When it came to re-imagining Roy, I wanted his dynamic within the Titans to be very distinct. He's the bad boy. He's not logical like Dick, diplomatic like Donna, calm like Tula or sensitive like Wally. Roy is always setting out to prove himself and he often clashes with authority. Though he's not team leader, he does tend to overstep his boundaries by ignoring Dick and Donna's orders. Nevertheless, he's a valuable member of the team and is an excellent strategist with archery skills that are on-par with his mentor Green Arrow. Additionally, he's quite close with his teammates. He and Dick are like brothers. They're the two that hang out the most and who confide in each other. Roy also flirts heavily with Donna. The two are on the cusp of dating but Roy finds himself incapable of committing himself to Donna even if she may be 'the perfect woman.'
For his design, I wanted to really take the Green Arrow redesign I did and really Arsenal it up. It's a little slicker and more streamlined than my Green Arrow redesign so it's a bit more youthful. Also, I purposely made Roy appear older than perhaps he should. He wouldn't be that much younger than Oliver and would in fact be the eldest of the Titans (marginally). Plus, it heightens his bad boy appeal if he appears older. The I chose to colour the costume in varying shades of red and that really inspired me to just eschew the codename Speedy for him in favour of Red Arrow. After all, Speedy is a way too cheesy name for the character type Roy would be playing.
Remember, you can find all my DC Comics redesigns in my gallery. Also, all the information here is a speculative and creative re-imagining so it is all effectively non-canon.
