Though not as well-known as the rogue's galleries of her fellow Leaguers Batman and Superman, Wonder Woman's bevy of baddies are extremely dangerous and are some of the most terrifying villains the DC Universe has to offer. I decided to redesign a handful of Wonder Woman's most memorable and most interesting foes as part of my re-imagined DC Universe. First up, we have the mysterious Doctor Poison.
Historically, Doctor Poison is Wonder Woman's very first costumed foe. In the original continuity, Doctor Poison was a Japanese spy who used toxins as part of her arsenal. Under my re-imagined umbrella of the DC Universe, Doctor Poison would be a fanatical recluse scientist whose experiments are heinous and as dangerous as they come. She's dangerous, wily and unpredictable. After hearing of the exploits of the heroine known as Wonder Woman, Doctor Poison becomes obsessed with the Amazing Amazon and seeks to find some way to destroy her through science. Along the way, Doctor Poison comes to associate herself with the group of villains known as Villainy Inc. Although they promote a sense of sisterhood, Doctor Poison is only in it for herself and will betray them as soon as she gets a chance.
I knew exactly where I wanted to go when it came to Doctor Poison's design. I essentially wanted her to be like a steampunk plague doctor. I gave her a cloak, cinched her waist in with a corset and then accessorized with a rather (in my opinion) terrifying gas mask. The look still lends itself to being androgynous but it's a little more feminine than the character's previous designs have been. I also wanted to make sure the colour scheme was dark and muddy as if to reflect her own mentality and personality. She's very anonymous and morbid.
Remember, all the other DC Comics redesigns I've done can be found in my gallery. Also, the information here is a creative and speculative re-imagining of the character so it is all effectively non-canon.
