Though not as well-known as the rogue's galleries of her fellow Leaguers Batman and Superman, Wonder Woman's bevy of baddies are extremely dangerous and are some of the most terrifying villains the DC Universe has to offer. I decided to redesign a handful of Wonder Woman's most memorable and most interesting foes as part of my re-imagined DC Universe. The fourth piece I've done is the majestic Queen Clea.
Once a revered royal leader of an Atlantean colony, Queen Clea was deposed when her tyranny was discovered by the heroes known as Aquaman and Wonder Woman. Her defeat at the hands of the Amazing Amazon was especially stinging. Furious over losing her kingdom, Clea vowed to get revenge on Wonder Woman and sought out the help of the sea God Poseidon. Poseidon recognized that he could use Clea to strike out against Wonder Woman, the champion of his sworn enemy of Athena. He gave her divine weaponry and enhanced her powers. With these newfound gifts, Clea set out to destroy her nemesis. She began assembling a team of female villains who each had a score to settle against Wonder Woman. She called this brigade Villainy Inc and together they are dead-set on destroying Wonder Woman. Clea is known for her impetuousness and she has a violent temper. She's a warrior queen who shouldn't be trifled with. She's an amazing leader but often finds herself at odds with other leader types.
Queen Clea's design here is something new for the character. Before she'd been depicted as wearing a white skirt with a golden bra but I decided to make her more Atlantean in appearance. In many ways, I even envision her as perhaps being Aquaman's cousin or perhaps even his half-sister. I designed a form-fitting one-piece suit with a collar that rises up around her neck to mimic the collars of queens. I gave her some teeth jewellery and a golden crown as well as a fishnet "cape." She completes the look with gauntlets and the sword Poseidon has given her. I'm rather happy with how she came out.
Remember, all the other DC Comics redesigns I've done can be found in my gallery. Also, the information here is a creative and speculative re-imagining of the character so it is all effectively non-canon.
