Continuing on with more non-canon alternate universe looks, here we have Storm's costume from the Age of X timeline!
Age of X is one of those storylines I've continually put off reading if for no other reason than that I'm lazy. It's intriguing especially given the fact that it involves Dazzler (in a rather fierce costume I might add) but the fact that it's Rogue-centric is a bit off-putting. Nevertheless, I figured I may as well add Storm's look from this storyline since it's a semi-memorable one. In this alternate universe, Storm is romantically linked to Namor and leads her own group of mutants. She wears a rather skimpy loincloth outfit that makes her look like a Jungle Girl and accessorizes with silver bracelets, shoes and an insect-like tiara. Despite the fact that most of the characters got ultra cool costumes for this storyline (again, Dazzler), Storm got the short-end of the "Let's make her look stereotypically African" stick.
I didn't design the outfit, so why should I be offended by something like that? I'm personally not a fan of the outfit as my artist comment indicated. I think it's a bit stereotypical and mildly racist.
I don't think so. I mean, I find it delves a little too much into the stereotypical/racist depiction of what North Americans feel Africans look like but under a modern context Storm wouldn't be caught dead in something like this especially when you consider how much more modernized Cairo and Kenya have become since Storm's introduction.
