X-Men - Storm Pt 1, First Appearance by Femmes-Fatales X-Men - Storm Pt 1, First Appearance by Femmes-Fatales
This is the thirty-third drawing in the X-Men profile series -- Ororo Munroe AKA Storm!

REAL NAME: Ororo Munroe
OCCUPATION: Adventurer, former thief
PLACE OF BIRTH: New York City (Manhattan), New York
AFFILIATION: X-Men; formerly Avengers, Fantastic Four, Morlocks
FIRST APPEARANCE: Giant-Size X-Men #1 (1975)
MUTANT POWERS: Storm has mastery over the weather. She can create bolts of lightning, fly on air currents, alter temperature and generate any type of storm. She is uniquely in-tune with mother nature and is even able to tap into the weather patterns on other planets but to much more unpredictable results. She is arguably one of the most powerful mutants in existence.

Ororo Munroe was born to a Kenyan princess and an American journalist in New York City. When she was still an infant, her family moved to Cairo. Tragedy struck when her family home was destroyed by a plane crush which killed both her parents and left Ororo trapped under the rubble. For decades after, Ororo would suffer from acute claustrophobia because of this. Now orphaned, Ororo survived on the streets as a pickpocket and eventually graduated to being a full-fledged thief operating for Achmed El Gibar. Shortly after encountering the psychic mutants Charles Xavier and Amahl Farouk, Ororo's own mutant abilities manifested and she soon became worshipped as a goddess by a small tribe.

Years later, Ororo would be recruited by Professor Xavier in a mission to rescue his students after they went M.I.A during a previous mission. Ororo adopted the codename Storm and was officially welcomed into the ranks of the X-Men. Though she initially had a hard time adapting to the repressive American culture, Ororo eventually found friends among her teammates (most notably Jean Grey and Wolverine). During her time with the X-Men, Storm encountered many villains such as Magneto, Juggernaut and the Hellfire Club. Following the now-infamous Dark Phoenix Saga, X-Men team leader Cyclops took a brief absence from the team and Storm was subsequently asked to take over.

Storm took to the role as leader in stride and successfully led the team against many threats. Also at this time, she forged an sisterly bond with Kitty Pryde and an additional friendship with the woman formerly known as Ms. Marvel, Carol Danvers. Some of the villains Storm battled at this time included Emma Frost and Dracula, the latter of whom attempted to make her his bride. Storm also fought against the leader of the Morlocks to free her teammate Angel. She won the fight against Callisto and was granted leadership of the Morlocks.

TBC in Part 2...

Storm. My favorite mutant. Awesome powers. Awesome hero. Awesome woman. But I despise her uniform. This version anyway. Or rather, all of them that has this attached-to-the-wrists-cape thing she's got going on.

I can't explain it. My general attitude to capes is if your gonna wear one, wear a curtain, a tablecloth, not a napkin or a towel. And Storm's.... thing, I don't even know what it is, doesn't fit those perimeters. It bugs me.

It's largely meant to be aerodynamic and allow her to glide on air much more easily. Her variety of capes make sense when you apply logic.

It does. Still don't like the thing.

To each their own.

Storm! She's my favorite X-Man. I'm sooo happy to see this. Thank you! :XD:

I think this costume is quite popular on dA, along with the punk look. I like it too. Dave Cockrum did a great job on the design (it was Dave, wasn't it?) I like the way the cape is attached to her bracelets and the design on her thigh-high boots. The red stone is a nice touch. I like the pose you drew and the way you positioned her hands. The hair has a beautiful shape and movement. Good job. =D

So what are your thoughts on the annulment of her marriage?

It's hard for me to tell if it's popular or not if I'm just judging it from this series alone since these pieces have been incredibly unpopular, reaching all-time lows in interest for my art. But yes, this a Dave Cockrum-designed costume. It's certainly one of his most well-remembered costumes and is one of Storm's most iconic.

In terms of the dissolution of Storm's marriage, I never supported the marriage in the first place so it's always a good thing when crappy relationships get removed from comics.

Well re-designed, pal. Storm had to be one of my more favourite X-Men characters for the uniqueness of the costume and the awesome aura of a true-to-form goddess she tends to display.

Funny to think she'll be celebrating her 40th anniversary in a couple years' time... :o

Keep up the wonderful work, mate. =)
