Continued from part 11...
With her allegiances more torn than ever, Storm found herself in the middle of in-fighting among the X-Men and clashing values among the Avengers. Following the break in leadership among the X-Men, Storm remained as neutral as possible though she appeared to mostly take Cyclops' side in the conflict but maintained ties with Wolverine and his group nonetheless. Through closer inspection, Storm's decision to take Cyclops' side appears to have been done in an attempt to create positive change in the increasingly violent Cyclops camp. Shortly after the dissolution of the relationship between Wolverine and Cyclops, Storm faced another civil war when the Avengers took an aggressive stance on the arrival of the Phoenix Force. Instantly siding with the X-Men, Storm left the Avengers and returned to her real friends among the X-Men.
Storm's decision to side with the X-Men would put her at odds with her husband. With the Phoenix Force taking control of five of the most powerful mutants on Earth, Storm was nearly powerless in preventing a Phoenix-imbued Namor from attacking Wakanda. Feeling betrayed by his wife (a rather unreasonable assertion, I might add), T'Challa declared Storm his enemy and had their marriage annulled.
With her ties to the Avengers severed and the removal of her royal duties, Storm was able to re-focus herself into the X-Men. Feeling that they had become the antithesis of what Xavier once dreamed them to be, Storm has made her her mission to rehabilitate the X-Men and instil the values that have been lost somewhere along the way. Her primary goal appears to be to save X-Force from its violent unmaking and prevent her dear friend Betsy (AKA Psylocke) from becoming a total murderous psychopath. Only time will tell whether Ororo succeeds in her mission or whether she will succumb to darker impulses.
