X-Men - Storm Pt. 7, The Late-'90s Look by Femmes-Fatales X-Men - Storm Pt. 7, The Late-'90s Look by Femmes-Fatales
Continued from part 6...

After the devastating events of the Onslaught Saga, the being known as Bastion initiated what would be known as Zero Tolerance. Mutants everywhere were targeted by Bastion and his hordes of Sentinels. Storm, Wolverine, Phoenix and Cyclops were captured by Bastion. With the most powerful mutants in the world at his hands, Bastion was sure of his victory. However, a new crop of mutants rose to the challenge and freed their fellow mutants in order to defeat Bastion.

Feeling exhausted by the constant fighting required of the X-Men, Cyclops and Phoenix left the team in order to start a new life together. Storm assumed full leadership of the X-Men once more and she was faced with the duelling personalities of the new members on the team. One of these new recruits was Marrow. She had survived Storm's attack and joined the X-Men to repent for her past mistakes. However, she continued to harbour a lot of resentment towards Storm but Storm worked hard to forge a friendship with the young mutant. She wanted to show her love and kindness so she became her mentor. Through her interactions with Marrow, Storm discovered that she was like every other teenage girl and found that Marrow had quickly developed crushes on Cannonball and later Gambit.

Around this time, the X-Men came face-to-face once more with their most powerful nemesis - Apocalypse. He planted a fake Wolverine on their team who was later revealed to be a Skrull. The real Wolverine had been captured by Apocalypse and turned into his horseman of Death. When they faced off against their former friend and teammate, the X-Men discovered the prophecy of "The Twelve" -- twelve incredibly powerful mutants who possessed an unstoppable force when assembled. Storm was one of these mutants. Apocalypse intended to kidnap The Twelve, drain them of their abilities and reincarnate himself in the body of Nate Grey. Refusing to cede to Apocalypse's will, the X-Men waged a battle against Apocalypse which nearly ripped them apart. They discovered Apocalypse was dying and his centuries-old body was wasting away. Jean Grey used this to her advantage and nearly succeeded in destroying him for good by psychically manipulating him into feeling the weight of his age but he began his transference into Nate Grey's body. Cyclops then sacrificed himself to save Nate and he merged with Apocalypse, an event which would ultimately change him forever. Though Cyclops would eventually free himself from Apocalypse, he would never be the same again.

This is a good look for her, except that Storm REALLY needs a cape; she flights by using the winds, and a cape helps her in this case.

Pre-Crisis Wonder Girl flew on air currents and she didn't wear a cape. In my opinion, Storm doesn't 'help' her so much as it's an aesthetic choice she makes. Her mastery over the weather is supreme and precise. She's been able to carry others with such ease that it's doubtful that she requires anything to help her fly. After all, she spent YEARS in Africa naked and was able to fly around to her heart's content. A point was made in her early appearances as well that she preferred to be naked so the implication there is she feels more at-one with nature without clothes. We also have to take into account the material she prefers for most of her costumes -- leather. It's a heavy material that wouldn't be aerodynamic. What I'm getting at is that Storm doesn't NEED a cape but it's a great aesthetic choice for her.
