Description
Part three of my Disney's Princesses of Light concept.
After her marriage to Prince Charming, Cinderella graciously invited her stepmother Lady Tremaine and stepsisters to live with them in the palace. Cinderella had faith that if she showed them the kindness they never afforded her, they would change. While Anastasia eventually distanced herself and found love with a baker in town, Lady Tremaine and Drizella became increasingly resentful towards Cinderella's good fortune.
When Hades released Maleficent, Ursula and Grimmhilde from the underworld, they came to Lady Tremaine with a plan. They imbued her with their powers of darkness and instructed her to create unrest amongst the people of France. Lady Tremaine followed their plan to the letter and subsequently led a rebellion against the royal family - forcing them to flee their palace and seeking refuge with Charming's brother Adam and his wife Belle in their castle in the north. Unfortunately, by the time they arrive there the fortress had been raided by Grimmhilde's forces from the east. She had cursed Adam once more into his beastly form, this time making him feral and incapable of showing any humanity. Prince Charming, Cinderella and Belle were then rescued by the Fairy Godmother, who transported them to the Enchanted Forest where they could recover and train for the battles ahead.
Given the ability to create constructs out of glass that's as strong as her will and armed with the Enchanted Sabre (and of course with her magical pooch Pumpkin by her side), Cinderella must learn to take an aggressive stand against her stepmother and her rebellion. At her core, Cinderella believes in redemption and that love conquers all. However, she's quickly learning that passivity isn't always the answer. As one of the older princesses in Aurora's cabal, Cinderella is fairly level-headed and has a maturity that some of the other girls lack. Still, she's also someone who follows her heart and allows her emotions to guide her. This is both her greatest strength and her greatest weakness, since it makes her a passionate and compassionate fighter.
With this piece, I'm obviously starting to get a little more specific with things. As you can tell, I've imagined the world of the Princesses of Light as being centred in a fictionalized Europe. Cinderella (and obviously Belle) have their kingdoms in France, which really influenced me to imagine Prince Charming and Prince Adam as brothers. This is also what inspired me to give Cinderella a sabre, due to fencing being a French sport (taken from the Italians, of course).
Design-wise, Cinderella's look is essentially her iconic dress meets Glimmer from She-Ra: Princess of Power. Her Palace Pet Pumpkin is drawn as identical as could be with my skills as seen in that sub-franchise.
